Elise M. Boulding (nee Elise Biorn-Hansen) is a Quaker sociologist and author who is considered one of the most influential peace researchers of the 20th century. Dubbed 'The Mother of Peace Research,' she is largely responsible for the academic discipline of 'Peace and Conflict Studies.' With her husband, Elise Boulding founded the International Peace Research Association and served as its Secretary-general, helping to organize 17 international peace conferences in 16 countries. She was also president of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Elise Boulding continues to be a leading voice in the global movement for a Culture of Peace. In 2005 she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize as part of the 1000 Women for Peace project.
