Dr. Inge Genefke received the 1988 Right Livelihood Award for helping to establish the Rehabilitation and Research Centre for Torture Victims (RCT) which helps "those whose lives have been shattered by torture to regain their health and personality." RCT has helped establish more than 100 centers and programs in 75 countries to treat the physical and psychological health of torture victims and their families.
