Byats-Khandaa Jargal, born into a Nomadic herder family in Mongolia, is the founder and director of the Woman's Farmers' Association. Her organization works to help the poor of Mongolia by teaching them agricultural skills. She started by setting up a soup kitchen to feed poor nomads, exchanging the food for a pledge to receive lessons in a handicraft. By learning these skills the poor nomads were able to lift themselves out of poverty and earn their own livelihoods. Then she began travelling around the country teaching the poor agricultural skills so that they can grow their own food and have extra income as well. Byats-Khandaa Jargal was nominated for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize as part of the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize project.
