knows that fracking poisons the air and water. We
wanted to show how it tears apart local communities
and subverts democracies and corrupts political leaders
and eviscerates all the things that Americans value.
needs to explain to me why wanting clean drinking
water makes you an activist, and why proposing to
destroy water with chemical warfare doesn’t make a
corporation a terrorist.
Nelson on Fracking:
"It's bad for the land, bad for the farmers,
bad for the soil. It's just all around a bad idea."
clearly coming to the end of the fossil fuel era.
We have the technology to shift to renewable energy,
we have the will of the people. The only thing that's
keeping us back is the fossil fuel industry's hold
on our political system. That's what we need to change.
from interview with Mark Ruffalo at Dickinson College
problem with hydrofracking ... it uses an enormous amount
of fresh water ... up to 13 million gallons to frack one
well... when you drill a well hole you're actually drilling
a pathway between contamination... and your aquifiers...and
these wells are failing ...and ... methane is between 30
and 70 times more damaging a greenhouse gas than carbon
dioxide, and the amount of methane gas we're losing in transporting
fracked gas or extracting fracked gas blows away any benefit
of the fact that methane burns twice as clean as any other
fossil fuel. All of these issues together make it not only
unsafe but incredibly unwise... You're running a giant mass
experiment that's completely out of control without any
understanding about where you're heading."
very proud that the state of Vermont banned fracking.
I hope communities all over California, and all over
America do the same."
not unexpected that shooting massive amounts of
water, sand, and chemicals at high pressure into
the earth to shatter shale and release natural gas
might shake things up. But earthquakes aren't the
worst problem with fracking.
