Be a Hero for a Better World ... Every Act of Kindness Makes a Difference!

GOALS

For Indigenous people, the goal for our land is definitely about protection, but it’s also about use. We see ourselves as so integrated with our territory that our protection is tied to our use and our use is tied to our protection. We use the resources on our territory to live.
-- Rebecca Adamson

Exactly what brings happiness is a mystery for most people. Some try to find the answer by pursuing wealth, love, adventure and climbing the corporate ladder. Many who reach the goals that they've convinced themselves they need to reach to be happy, however, find themselves still searching for happiness. The conclusion that many heroes for a better world have discovered, is that helping others to be happy is the surest way to find happiness. -- Robert Alan Silverstein

We can help unite our communities and inspire them to be excited about the goal of building a culture of peace by celebrating together. -- Robert Alan Silverstein

As peacemakers, we are part of a movement that has worked throughout history towards humanity's greatest goal - creating a culture of peace.
-- Robert Alan Silverstein

A family is one of the most basic models of what a better world can be like. And yet, like the world, most families don't feel connected because they forget or don't recognize the common goal they share that unites them. The members of a family are joined by bonds of love; they nurture and help each other meet all of their physical and emotional needs. A family that strives to become a better world family can help each member to feel more fulfilled and better about themselves and the world.
-- Robert Alan Silverstein

In this past century, a global interfaith movement has been growing, helping to raise consciousness about the need for tolerance and understanding between different cultures and religions. This movement has helped highlight the common goals that most religions share, such as the Golden Rule, which is at the heart of nearly all religious traditions. At the same time, many throughout the world are discovering that 'spirituality' -- a deep connection to a greater purpose for humanity -- is an important driving force in their lives, even if they aren't religious.
-- Robert Alan Silverstein

Peace of mind is not a goal I need achieve.
It's a place inside I never want to leave.
Close my eyes, I still my thoughts and then I say
I will choose to live in peace today.

-- Robert Alan Silverstein

The greatest obstacle we'll ever know, is that society has no goal.
Oh people join together now and show
That we can make this broken world whole.
Every act of kindness and compassion is hope for a better world.
With every act of kindness and compassion, we build a better world.
Help build a better world.
-- Robert Alan Silverstein

The life of a peacebuilder is a daily decision to refocus and rededicate ourselves to put 'creating a better world' first in our list of priorities. We refocus and rededicate our lives by allowing ourselves to feel inner peace so that we can once again see our greater purpose and know that our lives are making a difference. We are part of a movement that has worked throughout history towards humanity's greatest goal - creating a more peaceful, just and sustainable world.
-- Robert Alan Silverstein

Our goal is to create a world where citizens, communities, corporations and nations work together in a responsible way. Where decisions are not based on how much things cost or how much profit can be made, but on the value that it adds to the lives of our citizens and employees, and its impact on the environment. This sustainable life begins when we make our own lives more sustainable. -- Robert Alan Silverstein

If we look back at the course of history, we can see how the many different movements for a better world have evolved and have helped us to get to this moment. The goals of each of these movements have been converging, and a new holistic movement is emerging.
-- Robert Alan Silverstein

The global work of the United Nations is not without reason compared to that of a family -- striving for a common goal in concert with all members for a better future.
-– Kofi Annan

-- Aristotle

“To believe in yourself and to follow your dreams, to have goals in life and a drive to succeed, and to surround yourself with the things and the people that make you happy - this is success!”
-- Sasha Azevedo

* “Despite the threat of global terror hanging over all of us, there is only one path: to pursue the Millennium Development Goals with fresh resolve –confronting violence, bigotry and hatred with the same determination that we attack the causes from which they spring – conflict, ignorance, poverty and disease. The world we seek, where every child can grow to adulthood in health, peace and dignity – in short, a world fit for children – has remained a dream for more years than we can count. But we at UNICEF are convinced that working together with committed partners, and with an appropriate plan of action and a commitment to resources, we can make that dream a reality for each and every child on earth.”
-- Carol Bellamy

I'm tired of dreaming. I'm into doing at the moment. It's, like, let's only have goals that we can go after.
-- Bono

-– Bill Bradley

"If I had one wish for my children,
it would be that each of them would reach for goals that have meaning for them as individuals."
-- Lillian Carter

"Every noble work is bound to face problems and obstacles. It is important to check your goal and motivation thoroughly. One should be very truthful, honest, and reasonable. One's actions should be good for others, and for oneself as well. Once a positive goal is chosen, you should decide to pursue it all the way to the end. Even if it is not realized, at least there will be no regret."
- The Dalai Lama

-- John William Gardner

Our planet has run out of patience. So has our sense of justice. It is time to step it up -- and up -- and up -- until we reach the only goal that really matters: peace among people and peace between people and nature.
-- Ross Gelbspan
The goal toward which all history tends is peace, not peace through the medium of war, not peace through a process of universal intimidation, not peace through a program of mutual impoverishment, not peace by any means that leaves the world too weak or too frightened to go on fighting, but peace pure and simple based on that will to peace which has animated the overwhelming majority of mankind through countless ages. This will to peace does not arise out of a cowardly desire to preserve one's life and property, but out of conviction that the fullest development of the highest powers of men can be achieved only in a world of peace.
-- Robert Maynard Hutchins (1899-1977)

Our goal is to empower as many people as possible to take simple, effective actions in their daily lives that will make the world a more just and sustainable place.
-- Ellis Jones

* The enlargement of liberty for individual human beings must be the supreme goal and abiding practice of any western society.
-- Robert F. Kennedy

Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. -- Martin Luther King, Jr.

“If the cruelties of slavery could not stop us, the opposition we now face will surely fail. Because the goal of America is freedom, abused and scorned tho' we may be, our destiny is tied up with America's destiny.”
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.

"One of the most persistent ambiguities that we face is that everybody talks about peace as a goal. However, it does not take sharpest-eyed sophistication to discern that while everbody talks about peace, peace has become practically nobodys' business among the power-wielders. Many men cry Peace! Peace! but they refuse to do the things that make for peace."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.

The proper goal of an economic democracy agenda is to replace the global suicide economy ruled by rapacious and unaccountable global corporations with a planetary system of local living economies comprised of human-scale enterprise rooted in the communities they serve and locally owned by the people whose wellbeing depends on them.
-- David Korten

-- Vince Lombardi

-- John Maxwell

“The journey, not the destination, becomes a source of wonder.” - Loreena McKennitt

I want us all to face our fears and stop behaving like our goal in life is to merely survive. "Surviving" is for wimps and game show contestants stranded in the jungle or on a desert island. You are not stranded. You own the store....You deserve better.
-- Michael Moore

* Our goal is to have a country that's not divided by race.
-- Barack Obama

Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal. My strength lies solely in my tenacity.
-- Louis Pasteur

Only in a free society do individuals have the best chance to seek virtue, strive for excellence, improve their economic well-being, and achieve personal happiness... The worthy goals of civilization can only be achieved by freedom loving individuals. When government uses force, liberty is sacrificed and the goals are lost. It is freedom that is the source of all creative energy.
-- Ron Paul

We are privileged to have the opportunity of contributing to the achievement of the goal of the abolition of war and its replacement by world law. I am confident that we shall succeed in this great task; that the world community will thereby be freed not only from the suffering caused by war but also through the better use of the earth's resources, of the discoveries of scientists, and of the efforts of mankind, from hunger, disease, illiteracy, and fear; and that we shall in the course of time be enabled to build a world characterized by economic, political, and social justice for all human beings and a culture worthy of man's intelligence.
-- Linus Pauling

* You have to dream, you have to have a vision and you have to set a goal for yourself that might even scare you a little at times because sometimes that seems far beyond your reach. Then I think you have to develop a kind of resistance to rejection, and to the disappointments that are sure to come your way. Tough times don’t last, tough people do...
-- Gregory Peck

-- Jean Piaget

Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.
-- Pablo Picasso

“Goals are a means to an end, not the ultimate purpose of our lives. They are simply a tool to concentrate our focus and move us in a direction. The only reason we really pursue goals is to cause ourselves to expand and grow. Achieving goals by themselves will never make us happy in the long term; it's who you become, as you overcome the obstacles necessary to achieve your goals, that can give you the deepest and most long-lasting sense of fulfillment.” -- Anthony Robbins

* "My goal in life is to leave behind a safe and healthy world for our children. Before I leave this world, I want to be satisfied that at least I tried. I know I can make a difference, even if it might only be a small one."

I've gained so much confidence as a woman from figuring out that I don't want to be destructive. I don't want to stomp through the world and be number one. I just want to tread really lightly and not destroy anything. Hopefully, I can try to mend some things. That's my goal.
-- Alicia Silverstone
